The health and well being of caregivers, and especially of family caregivers, is very important. In Calgary there is an excellent resource available to help provide family caregivers with the support they need - The Family Caregiver Centre.
What is the Family Caregiver Centre?
The Family Caregiver Centre understands what being a caregiver is all about. They offer support, information, referral and guidance to caregivers of any age. With the Family Caregiver Centre here, you are not alone.
Each family caregiver - whether you're looking after a loved one, friend or neighbour - embarks on a journey of discovery. The road you choose to travel and your experiences will always be uniquely yours. Their role is to help you find your way.
Family Caregiver Centre Services and Resources
They can put you in touch with a wide range of services throughout the healthcare system and in the community to help support you in your role as a family caregiver. Other services they provide are:
- Books, videos, and articles for loan.
- "Journeys" quarterly newsletter.
- Educational opportunities - from presentations to workshops.
- An opportunity to share with and learn from other family caregivers.
Who Is The Family Caregiver Centre For?
Anyone who gives unpaid care and support to a person who is living with a long-term illness or disability. They are capable and eager to work with people on a journey with ALS.
What Is The Cost?
Information and support services are free. There may be some costs associated with education and special programming.

They have an excellent website available at www.familycaregivers.ab.ca, or you can phone them at (403) 303-6027, or visit them at 1509 Centre St. S in Calgary. The centre is open Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
