Support for
Champions

The Support for Champions program allows children whose parents are affected by ALS to participate in "normal" childhood activities that may not be available to them due to the immense financial burden ALS can cause. The program invites parents or children to apply to the Society for funding for events or activities that the child would like to participate in.

The need for this type of support is real and is currently not being met for many families in Alberta. There are, of course, some families who have the financial means and social network to be able to ensure that the children affected by ALS are still able to engage in social activities, deal with their grief and anger appropriately, enjoy childhood despite their parents suffering and look forward to a bright and promising future. Unfortunately, this is not the case for everyone, and for some families, there is a real struggle in balancing financial responsibilities and recreational activities.

What are the requirements?

  • Must be under the age of 18 at the commencement of the program they are applying for

  • Must be currently living in the province of Alberta

  • Must have or have had a parent with ALS

  • The parent must have registered with the ALS Society of Alberta

How do you apply?

To apply for funding through the Support for Champions program, or to donate to this program, contact our provincial office at 403-228-3857 or email info@alsab.ca

The exact deadlines for the Support for Champions program change every year. For fall and winter, program applications will be sent out in August. For Spring programs, applications will be sent out in March.
